Let's Get It On Get on up and get out to meet your neighbors. It's the annual Bridgeton & Roth Estates Neighborhood Block Party. On the Commons on the corner of Suttle and 4th Avenue. Wouldn't be a block party without free burgers and hot dogs, so we'll have 'em. There will be games, a DJ and outdoor door prizes. Bring your own beverage, a side to share and a smile. It's summer.

Bridgeton Neighbors, For the last year and a half, I have been serving on an Oregon Solutions team of regional leaders which has been working to address the accreditation and certification of the Peninsula Drainage Districts 1 and 2 levees along the Columbia River. Since that time, the team has completed visual and geotechnical surveys of the levees, (Bridgeton Road, by the way, is in pretty good shape!) and has formed a Declaration of Cooperation outlining how the team will work together in the future. Much work has been completed, a significant amount of information has been gleaned, and the future has been laid out. On Friday, July 17, I signed the Declaration on behalf of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association board of directors. The Declaration and a one-page flyer about the levee improvement program are below. For further information, please read this article in the Portland Tribune, and view this piece from KOIN-TV. In the coming months, contractors with the Multnomah County Drainage District, working under the direction of the Oregon Solutions technical committee, will be contacting some residents of the Bridgeton neighborhood to inventory properties which may lie in encroachment areas of the levee. The purpose of the inventory is to develop plans on how to address the areas during high water events. Please take the time to survey these documents, and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. All the best, Karen Kane Co-chair Bridgeton Neighborhood Association P.S. - Enjoy our neighborhood street sale this Sunday, and mark your calendars for our National Night Out Summer Picnic, scheduled for Saturday, August 1, from 4-7 p.m. Details to follow! Here are the documents if you want a copy.

The sale is scheduled from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Remove all remaining items after the sale. Questions...? Contact Bridget The Bridgeton Neighborhood Association is a program partner on the Oregon Solutions Levee Improvement Program. What is the Levee Improvement Program? As a result of recent storms around the country, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Army Corps of Engineers have implemented higher standards for levee safety. The Levee Improvement Program is a collaboration of local government, business, and community based organizations working together to evaluate the condition of the levees, to ensure valuable regional resources are protected in the future, and to meet these new federal standards. In 2015 and 2016, the Levee Improvement Program will finish identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the levees. The Program will also conduct several studies to better understand the economic, environmental, and community assets protected by the levees. Once all of this information is gathered the partners will work with the community to identify, implement, and pay for any necessary repairs or improvements Want to learn more?
