Good news for our neighborhood from outgoing Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz. Columbia Children’s Arboretum is getting more funding! Look out for another planning meeting in mid-September to weigh in on future improvements there.
Portland Parks & Recreation will again engage the public in mid-September around selecting the final project concept; with design and permitting processes afterwards. Construction may begin in 2019 but a firm schedule is yet to be determined. Columbia Children’s Arboretum is a regional destination as well as within half a mile of nearly 400 homes. Columbia Children’s Arboretum, 10040 NE 6th Drive.In addition to $1.135 million in SDCs previously allocated toward Columbia Children’s Arboretum trails and access in 2016, Fritz has earmarked an additional $750,000 in SDCs. Funding from SDCs towards this project now totals $1,885,000. The nearly-29-acre Columbia Children’s Arboretum is one of only two in the PP&R system, the other being Hoyt Arboretum. The public weighed in on project options via the Bureau’s community engagement outreach; now the project moves to the processes around design, costs and feasibility.Some improvements may include:
