BNA Summer Picnic - CANCELLED :-(

9/14/2021

In light of the resurgence of Covid cases, the BNA Summer Picnic has been cancelled this year.

We are sad not to see and hear from neighbors in person at the park this year but our safety is determined by getting vaccinated, wearing masks, and keeping a safe distance from one another when in large groups. We will have to cancel the picnic for now and reschedule at a later time.

Our favorite "Tilly Truck" by Heights Cream will still be coming through the neighborhood that day. Listen for the sounds of summer and plan to visit with neighbors, with an ice cream, one-on-one instead.
Saturday, Sept. 11 - Ice Cream "Tilly Truck" visits Bridgeton Road starting at 6:00pm

Vendor Invitation

Members of the community are invited to sell their wares at our Community Yard Sale & Church Fair, by renting a space for $15, to set up their own tables on which to display their items for sale.  A few 6’ – 8’ tables will be available to rent for $10 if community members do not have a table to set up (we have only 11 of these tables available, so first come, first serve – tables will not be reserved ahead of time).

Setting up tables, and saleable wares, begins at 9 am, Saturday, August 21st.  The public will be allowed to come in at 10:00 am.  The yard sale will run from 10am – 4pm.  Hamburgers, or hot dogs, with chips, and water, will be available for free.  Donations appreciated.

Please call Martha Johnston, 503-720-5035, to reserve a space!

More Columbia Children's Arboretum Funding

8/31/2018

Good news for our neighborhood from outgoing Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz. Columbia Children’s Arboretum is getting more funding! Look out for another planning meeting in mid-September to weigh in on future improvements there.

Portland Parks & Recreation will again engage the public in mid-September around selecting the final project concept; with design and permitting processes afterwards. Construction may begin in 2019 but a firm schedule is yet to be determined. Columbia Children’s Arboretum is a regional destination as well as within half a mile of nearly 400 homes.

Columbia Children’s Arboretum, 10040 NE 6th Drive. In addition to $1.135 million in SDCs previously allocated toward Columbia Children’s Arboretum trails and access in 2016, Fritz has earmarked an additional $750,000 in SDCs. Funding from SDCs towards this project now totals $1,885,000. The nearly-29-acre Columbia Children’s Arboretum is one of only two in the PP&R system, the other being Hoyt Arboretum. The public weighed in on project options via the Bureau’s community engagement outreach; now the project moves to the processes around design, costs and feasibility. Some improvements may include:
  • ADA parking
  • A gathering area with a shelter for outdoor education opportunitie
  • A park restroom
  • Bus turnaround area
  • Flexible spaces for nature-based play
