6:30-8:00 PM

Levee Ready Columbia is a partnership of more than 20 organizations committed to a collaborative approach to flood plain management in Multnomah County along the Columbia River. Part of Levee Ready Columbia’s work is to ensure that the levees in Peninsula Drainage District #2 meet standards of risk set by the U.S. Corps of Engineer and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

This includes conducting a study to determine how buildings (“encroachments”) on or near the levee effect levee function during a flood event.

Come to the event to learn:
  • how structures on the levee in PEN 2 effect flood risk
  • about flood preparedness and emergency flood response
  • more about Levee Ready Columbia’s work to reduce flood risk for your property

3 Phase Plan for Triangle at Gantenbien and Marine Drive

Phase I – Clean Up
The first phase is underway. The BNA Board approved hiring Integrity Tree Care for $1450 to clear debris, trim and start repairing the big red oak, remove some plants and grind stumps in the Bridgeton triangle.

Phase II - Triangle design
Kent Gentry of Greenswale Garden Design has submitted a proposal illustrating potential improvements. The BNA board will review the proposal and make a recommendation.

An element of the redesign includes developing Bridgeton Neighborhood signs. The concept for the sign placement will include all of the Bridgeton neighborhood from Anchor Way to the east entrance at Bridgeton Rd and Marine Dr. Designs will be reviewed and selected designs will be shared for comment.

Phase III – Maintenance
Low maintenance is a requirement for the landscape design. A plan for maintenance service will be included with overall design proposal.

Car Break-Ins | A Note from Karen Kane

1/23/2016

The Bridgeton neighborhood is again seeing a rash of vehicle break-ins. Last spring at a general neighborhood meeting, we were visited by an officer from the City of Portland Crime Prevention Program who gave us tips about how to prevent vehicle and other theft from our property. Links to the flyers are below, but want to remind everyone of a few basics as well.

First - remember that car break-ins are a theft of opportunity. That means if someone sees something or perceives something of value in your vehicle, he or she may take the quick opportunity to smash a window and take it. So don't leave anything in sight. Anything! They flyer details what items are most taken, but we were told that even the simplest items, such as device chargers, coffee mugs and a few dollars in change are targets.

We've also had complaints about transients going through garbage and recycling. This is an easy one - do not leave it outside! If you have a garage, then leave your containers inside until the day of (or night prior to) pickup. For moorages with communal pickup, avoid leaving items outside of the locked containers. Not only do garbage containers and extra trash contribute to making our neighborhood look unsightly, they are also targets of opportunity for others to comb through.

Finally - and this cannot be repeated enough - REPORT ALL BREAK-INS - no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Our crime prevention officers take all occurrences seriously, and allocate more resources to areas in need. If we don't report, we don't appear to be in need.

Following are links to flyers from the Office of Crime Prevention. Please take a moment to read them, and heed the advice of the experts.

Remember, you are making the neighborhood safe for all your neighbors when you follow these guidelines.
  • keep your vehicle cleaned out
  • hide items in your vehicles if you must leave them there
  • leave your trash containers inside your garage or in another hidden area
  • avoid placing items outside of communal trash pick-up areas
  • REPORT ALL BREAK-INS. PERIOD.

Let's Get It On

Get on up and get out to meet your neighbors. It's the annual Bridgeton & Roth Estates Neighborhood Block Party. On the Commons on the corner of Suttle and 4th Avenue.

Wouldn't be a block party without free burgers and hot dogs, so we'll have 'em. There will be games, a DJ and outdoor door prizes. Bring your own beverage, a side to share and a smile. It's summer.

A message from BNA Co-Chair Karen Kane

Bridgeton Neighbors,

For the last year and a half, I have been serving on an Oregon Solutions team of regional leaders which has been working to address the accreditation and certification of the Peninsula Drainage Districts 1 and 2 levees along the Columbia River.

Since that time, the team has completed visual and geotechnical surveys of the levees, (Bridgeton Road, by the way, is in pretty good shape!) and has formed a Declaration of Cooperation outlining how the team will work together in the future. Much work has been completed, a significant amount of information has been gleaned, and the future has been laid out.

On Friday, July 17, I signed the Declaration on behalf of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association board of directors.

The Declaration and a one-page flyer about the levee improvement program are below.

For further information, please read this article in the Portland Tribune, and view this piece from KOIN-TV.

In the coming months, contractors with the Multnomah County Drainage District, working under the direction of the Oregon Solutions technical committee, will be contacting some residents of the Bridgeton neighborhood to inventory properties which may lie in encroachment areas of the levee. The purpose of the inventory is to develop plans on how to address the areas during high water events.

Please take the time to survey these documents, and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

All the best,

Karen Kane
